Camilo Valencia, Lead Mechatronics Engineeer
I’m a Mechatronics Engineer and currently in charge of the Memsys Lab. My role involves maintaining and improving our infrastructure, developing testing tools, and creating R&D workflows to help validate the awesome ideas our team comes up with. It’s a space where no two days are the same, and that’s one of the things I enjoy the most.
I studied Mechatronics Engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the top public university in my home country. During my time there, I worked on a wide range of projects and topics, from robotics and process automation to biotechnology, software development, and even a bit of astronomy. That variety helped shape the way I approach engineering today.
Like many in the field, my curiosity started early. I loved taking things apart, trying to fix anything that broke, and reusing parts for new experiments when there was no saving the original. Mix that with a steady diet of sci-fi movies, a fascination with Iron Man, and endless hours online learning about tech and innovation, and it just made sense to follow a path that combined mechanics, electronics, and software.
What I appreciate the most about my work now is being surrounded by talented people constantly generating new ideas. Whether it comes from the core engineering team or from the fresh perspective of our interns, there’s always something new to explore. Having the freedom to turn those ideas into real tools and systems keeps things exciting and helps me keep growing both personally and professionally.
When I’m not in the lab, you’ll probably find me biking around, jamming to music, or exploring new worlds, still tinkering, just in different ways!
